April 18, 2022 - Rescue Mission #9

Meet Devore and Big Bear. These two brothers are not even 6 months old. They were VERY scared in their shelter. They have survived a rough short life and have carried some fears with them to the shelter. Their owner recently passed away and no one seemed to want them, so they were euth listed and were scheduled to be put down this week. No extensions were guaranteed, so moving them out of their shelter was of upmost importance.

  We did that today! We flew from San Diego’s Montgomery Field to John Wayne airport to pick them up (Yup, we flew into the big boys airport, where we were in line behind a Southwest Airlines plane and in front of an American Airlines plane). They were SOOO scared that they flopped on the ground immediately and refused to walk on the tarmac. We went back to our airplane to get their crate so that they could be loaded into the crate directly from their truck. Once they were in our plane, they somehow realized that they were safe. It’s as if though they KNEW they were going to a safer place. It didn’t take long for them to warm up to us, licking our fingers as we put them inside the crate. They eventually fell asleep on our way to Paso Robles airport, where the new shelter was going to receive them to feed them, bathe them, and provide a safe haven for them. When we landed at Paso Robles airport, they were eager to get out and explore their new environment. We realize we can’t save the world, but for these two siblings, we changed the world for them and that was worth the trip!
