The common names include Concrete Leaf or Jewel Plant. T. calcarea is a wild-looking mesemb or mimicry plant. It grows as a clump of blue-green, even pink and purple, club-shaped leaves topped with bumpy, white warts. It camouflages so well in its rocky habitats in South Africa and Namibia that it is often only found while in bloom. It produces shiny, yellow to orange, daisy-like flowers in Fall and Winter. The flowers have a honey scent and are only open in the evenings.
